The trailer for the new documentary Americonned offers a startling look at the impact automation and artificial intelligence are having on jobs in the U.S.
The film from director Sean Claffey shows robots and automated machines assembling vehicles and building homes, jobs that for years have provided a solid middle class living for workers around the country.
“There just won’t be enough jobs to give all Americans a decent, livable wage,” one analyst says in the trailer.
Another adds, “Our middle class is eroding every single day.”

The official description for the film warns, “Forty seven percent of American jobs are at high risk of being lost to automation and A.I. by the mid-2030s.”
The film also follows labor organizer Chris Smalls, a former Amazon warehouse assistant manager, who was fired after demanding safer working conditions at the company.
“If they’re not going to take care of their employees, then somebody has to,” Smalls says in a clip taken from an interview he did with 60 Minutes.
The documentary also includes footage from ABC News, MSNBC and NBC 4 in Los Angeles, showing labor protests and politicians on Capitol Hill.
“We can’t rely on the government and we damn sure can’t rely on the one percent class,” Smalls says in another part of the trailer.
The documentary comes from Shine the Light Films.
Americonned will have a limited theatrical run. It opens in New York (Cinema Village), Los Angeles (Laemmle Monica Film Center) and major cities on June 9, with a VOD release in the U.S. and Canada on major platforms June 13.
