New York actor Isaiah Stokes has been indicted for murder by a Queens grand in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said in a July 16 press release.
Prosecutors allege Stokes shot 37-year-old Tyrone Jones of Queens Village multiple times as the victim sat in a parked vehicle in Jamaica, Queens on Feb. 7, 2021.
“The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon shooting. Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
According to the D.A.’s office, surveillance footage showed Stokes exiting a vehicle near the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 200th Street. Prosecutors allege he approached the driver’s side of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee around 2:45 p.m. and opened fire.
The New York Post published pictures from the crime scene, showing police officers surrounding the Jeep as they searched for clues during a snowstorm.
Stokes, 41, was arraigned Friday on a three-count indictment charging him with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He is scheduled to return to court on Monday, July 19. If convicted, he faces 25 years-to-life in prison
The actor landed his first TV roles in the mid-2000s, according to his IMDb page. The Queens native has had parts on Rescue Me, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Boardwalk Empire, The Americans and Blue Bloods. His most recent role was on the Starz crime drama Power as “Mozzy” in 2019.
Stokes studied accounting and business management at Delaware State University (DSU). He is also said to be a hip hop artist using the stage name I$AIAH and has released several mixtapes.
