ABC has opted not to renew Mixed-ish for a third season.
The Black-ish spinoff was among the network’s least-watched series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
News of the show’s cancellation after two seasons came on Friday, just hours after the network renewed Black-ish for an eighth and final season.
Mixed-ish is a prequel of Black-ish and follows a young Rainbow Johnson, as she details her experiences growing up in a mixed-race family in the 1980s. The family faces dilemmas over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves when Rainbow’s parents move from a hippie commune to the suburbs.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris also brought audiences Mixed-ish, which premiered on September 24, 2019.
The series stars Arica Himmel as Rainbow Johnson, Tika Sumpter as Alicia Johnson, Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Paul Johnson, Christina Anthony as Denise, Arica Himmel as Bow Johnson, Ethan William Childress as Johan Johnson, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Santamonica Johnson and Gary Cole as Harrison, with Tracee Ellis Ross narrating and serving as an executive producer.
Other executive producers include Kenya Barris, Peter Saji, Karin Gist, Randall Winston, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins.
Tika Sumpter reacted to the cancellation news by tweeting, “Thank you #Mixedish fam! We love you so much, always will! Onward and upward!!”
Also on Friday, ABC canceled the Katey Sagal-led drama Rebel, sophomore legal drama For Life, family comedy American Housewife and the Kyra Sedgwick sitcom Call Your Mother.
