The staff at Abbott Elementary is getting ready for back to school, but things don’t quite go as planned.

ABC released a promo for season 2 of the hit comedy series on Wednesday. It shows the staff standing outside Willard R. Abbott Elementary School as Boyz II Men’s “Motownphilly” plays in the background.

There’s just one problem, the key to the school won’t open the doors and the staff can’t get inside the building.

“These new keys I made must be too thick,” Ava (Janelle James) says as she fumbles with the keys. “I blame the locks, honestly.”

Janine (Quinta Brunson) makes a suggestion, which immediately falls flat.

“Well, what if we take this time to have a heartfelt discussion about what we’re excited about in the new year,” she says to groans.

The Emmy-nominated series is created by Brunson and centers on a fictional predominantly Black elementary school in Philadelphia. The comedy co-stars Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Chris Perfetti.

Brunson serves as a writer. She also executive produces alongside Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Randall Einhorn, who directed the pilot. The series is produced by Warner Bros Television and 20th Television.

Season 2 of Abbott Elementary is set to debut on its new night, Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
