Tommy Davidson Goes Missing in ‘Search Party: Where’s PawPaw?’

Tichina Arnold and Tommy Davidson bring the laughs in the new family comedy Search Party: Where’s PawPaw?

Faith+Works Productions released the trailer on Sept. 17, offering a look at a frantic search for a missing grandfather that quickly spirals into chaos.

The film follows college student Noble Williams, played by Victoria Monai Richards, who rushes home after learning her PawPaw’s health has taken a turn for the worse, according to the official description.

Noble makes the trip with her two best friends, Sunshine and Nigeria. When they arrive at the nursing home, PawPaw, played by Davidson, pulls her aside and delivers an alarming warning.

“You gotta get me outta here, they gone wipe the floor with me,” he tells her.

Before Noble can figure out what he means, the nurses return and escort her out. By the next day, PawPaw has vanished. Noble, her friends and her outspoken Aunt MeekMeek, played by Arnold, are left with one cryptic clue warning them, “The clock is ticking.”

The message leads Noble to a giant Flavor Flav-style clock PawPaw made her wear as a child. From there, the group follows the clues he left behind.

Nijah Brenea and Daisy Fernandez also star alongside Arnold, Davidson and Richards.

The film is described as an early-2000s-inspired comedy “full of heart, chaos, and family love.”

Victoria Monai Richards co-wrote, directed and leads the cast, marking her feature debut at just 22 years old. She is best known to audiences for playing “Treasure” on the Issa Rae-produced HBO Max series Rap Sh!t.

Richards revealed what inspired the movie in a recent statement.

“This film came from a very real place. When I was 19, I was cast in an HBO show created by Issa Rae — my first major project,” she shared. “The two women I acted alongside became like sisters. We were newcomers, figuring it out together, and during a goofy car scene the director looked at us and said, ‘Y’all need your own show.’ That stuck with me.”

The movie was co-written by Richards’ mother, Sherrie Richards, under their family-run Faith+Works Productions banner.
