Spider-Man: Brand New Day spun a record web of success at the box office.
Now, the Trump administration trying to co-opt the film to promote U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations — and getting dragged in the process.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, the White House team uploaded a post to Instagram using Spider-Man imagery to trumpet deportations of undocumented immigrants. The post included the caption, “Your friendly neighborhood ICE agents.”
The four-picture carousel showed an AI-generated photo of Spider-Man’s hand reaching out to spin a web. The next two pictures were of webs being released, while the fourth showed an ICE agent standing watch over a group of detainees trapped in a web. Text placed over the last image said: “Criminal illegal aliens will be caught and deported.”
