It’s official. Production is now underway on the third installment of Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? franchise.
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Netflix announced details on the new film titled Why Did I Get Married Again?
Tyler Perry followed up with a statement saying filming is currently underway on the long-awaited sequel to the 2010 film Why Did I Get Married Too?
“Really having fun with this group again!! Filming is going great! It’s hilarious, poignant, and powerful. Can’t wait for y’all to see this one! Here we go again!!” Perry shared Wednesday on Instagram.

The new movie will feature several returning stars along with newcomers, Empire alum Taraji P. Henson and BMF star Da’Vinchi.
Henson is a longtime collaborator with Perry and most recently starred in his Netflix film Straw, which debuted in June.
Da’Vinchi is coming off a role in Lifetime’s Mary J. Blige-produced movie Family Affair, which was part of a franchise based on Blige’s hit songs.
Other newcomers to Why Did I Get Married Again? include Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.
Returning stars are Tyler Perry, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, and Lamman Rucker.
The Shade Room published exclusive pictures on Wednesday of the cast and crew working on Why Did I Get Married Again? in Lake Como, Italy. In one scene, Henson was filming alongside Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal and Jill Scott. All four were impeccably dressed and perfectly coifed.
Another picture showed Da’Vinchi and two other actors on a boat, and all three were decked out in tuxedos.
Per Netflix, the upcoming movie will center on a big reunion: “The couples reunite in celebration as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to tie the knot. After being apart for quite some time, they learn quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”
There’s no word if Janet Jackson will reprise her role as Patricia in the follow-up film.
The first installment debuted in 2007. It earned a healthy $55.8 million at the worldwide box office on a reported $15 million production budget, per Boxofficemojo. The second film made $60.6 million at the box office.
The new movie will stream on Netflix, making it available to more fans.
Perry serves as writer, producer and director. Producers also include Angi Bones, and Tony Strickland.
