Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is making his feature directorial debut with You People, a new comedy starring Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill, Nia Long and Lauren London.
Netflix released the first trailer and photos from the film on Monday, Dec. 5. The teaser shows Hill sitting inside a Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles with his future in-laws, played by Murphy and Long.
Hill’s character hopes to win the couple’s approval to marry their daughter, played by London, but his plans hit a snag.
“So do you hang out in the hood all the time, or do you just come up here for our food and women?” Murphy asks Hill. “It’s a good question,” Long chimes in.

Hill brings up race and the conversation quickly goes sideways.
“If Amira and I had a baby, it would be a very nice baby. Mixed race people are really awesome,” he says. To prove his point, he cites Mariah Carey, Derek Jeter, and the GOAT, referring to Malcolm X. Murphy is in disbelief by every comment Hill makes.
The film also stars David Duchovny, Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage, Mike Epps, Emily Arlook, La La Anthony, Bryon Greenberg and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Barris produced and co-wrote the film with Hill. Executive producers include David Hyman, Matt Dines, Hale Rothstein, Alison Goodwin, Mychelle Deschamps, Andy Berman and Charisse Hewitt-Webster.
As previously reported, Barris is expected to direct more films after this comedy. The next film he will direct is the Wizard of Oz remake for Warner Bros.
Barris is best known for creating Black-ish, and its two spinoff series Grown-ish and Mixed-ish. He also wrote co-wrote and produced the hit film Girls Trip.
You People arrives on Netflix Jan. 27, 2023. Watch the trailer above.
