The crew is back, the kids are grown, and marriage is still complicated in the trailer for Netflix’s Why Did I Get Married Again?
The preview takes the longtime friends to Italy for a destination wedding as Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela’s (Tasha Smith) daughter prepares to tie the knot.
The sequel reunites original stars Tyler Perry, Sharon Leal, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, and Richard T. Jones.
But as seen in the trailer, what starts as a celebration quickly becomes a look at the realities of marriage. As the friends reconnect after years apart, they realize their children may have grown up, but some things haven’t changed.
Now that the couples are back, their kids are old enough to make some of the same mistakes.
“All our kids are just like us,” they say in the trailer.
The film also introduces new faces to the franchise, including Taraji P. Henson and Da’Vinchi, along with Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.
Tyler Perry’s character sums up the film’s message about love in the trailer: “This is what real love is. It’s ugly sometimes, it’s messy, but it’s beautiful and it’s worth it.”
Why Did I Get Married Again? comes 16 years after Why Did I Get Married Too?, which was released in 2010. The original Why Did I Get Married? debuted in 2007. The first two films earned a combined $117 million at the box office against a total production budget of $35 million, according to The-Numbers.com.
As previously reported, Netflix announced production on the sequel in October 2025. Perry wrote, directed and produced the film, with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also serving as producers.
