Fans of Wendy Williams took to the streets to support the former talk show host as she fights to be released from a court-appointed guardianship.

Extra captured the moment Williams waved from her fifth-floor window on Tuesday, April 1, as protesters rallied outside the assisted living facility in New York City, where Williams says she lives “like a prisoner.”

The TV and radio star could be seen in the outlet’s video smiling, dancing, and making a heart gesture with her hands. She later held up a “Free Wendy” T-shirt as supporters chanted “Free Wendy” below.

Williams also spoke by phone with Suzanne Bass, the former executive producer of The Wendy Williams Show, encouraging the crowd to get louder.

When Bass asked how she was doing, Williams was placed on speaker and responded, “Better now.”

There was also a #FreeWendy protest Tuesday at Williams’ star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

Urban Hollywood 411 was on the scene as protesters carried signs, chanted, and a Wendy impersonator delivered the media mogul’s signature line: “How you doin’?”

Williams, 60, was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023, according to her care team.

In November 2024, her court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey, filed court documents alleging Williams was “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.

She was placed under guardianship in 2022 after Wells Fargo petitioned a New York court, citing concerns of financial exploitation.

Williams recently spoke out against claims made in court documents that she is “incapacitated.” During a Jan. 16 interview on “The Breakfast Club,” she told Charlamagne Tha God she is “not impaired” and feels like she’s living “in a prison.”

On Feb. 12, TMZ released the documentary, TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy, featuring video of Williams speaking from her apartment window.

She said she is not allowed to go outside, lives under heavy security, and eats alone because it’s “extremely depressing” to be around elderly residents with serious health issues.

Last month, Williams called in to The View and said she had recently left the facility to be evaluated at a hospital and was given a “capacity test” by a mental health professional, who confirmed she is not “incapacitated.”

Williams has turned to the media to help tell her story as she continues to fight to be released from the guardianship.
