Charlamagne tha God isn’t one to hold back, and this time he’s using his platform to applaud New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker.
Charlamagne filled in as host on the Tuesday, April 1, edition of The Daily Show.
During his opening monologue, “The Breakfast Club” host reminded the audience that Booker had just made history with his record Senate floor speech.
For just over 25 hours, Booker spoke out against President Donald Trump and his administration’s threats to public education, Social Security benefits, and Medicaid funding.
Charlamagne told the audience talking was a big step for a Democrat. “This is unbelievable, yes! A Democrat actually doing something, wow! That’s the longest someone’s held Congress captive since Jan. 6,” he said.
“I mean, so far he’s only talking, but he’s talking a lot, so I’ll take it. What Booker did today is like the political version of phone sex — it’s not as good as the real thing, but it’s a hell of a lot better than nothing,” he quipped.

He then took aim at Democrats as a whole.
“And nothing is what it seems like the Democratic Party has been doing for the last three months,” he continued. “The Democrats are like Jason Momoa in between Aquaman movies — not in good shape.”
Booker held the floor for 25 hours and 5 minutes, from Monday into Tuesday, surpassing late South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond’s 1957 filibuster of the Civil Rights Act.
Booker, a Black progressive invoked the Civil Rights movement as he spoke about his roots as a descendant of both slaves and slave owners, according to ABC News.
He was protesting what he called reckless actions by the Trump administration. In closing, the New Jersey politician quoted the late Rep. John Lewis.
The Democrat called “for us to go out and cause some good trouble, necessary trouble, to redeem the soul of our nation.”
After his marathon speech, the 55-year-old senator told reporters he worked on a “strategy” avoid going to the bathroom for 25 hours.
“I think I stopped eating on Friday, and then to stop drinking the night before I started on Monday, and that had its benefits and it had its really downsides,” he said, per The Hill. “And so instead of fighting or figuring out how to go the bathroom, I ended up, I think really, unfortunately, dehydrating myself.”
Booker has held his Senate seat since 2013, and is the first African American New Jersey has sent to the U.S. senate.
As for Charlamagne, he isn’t new to politics. During the 2024 election cycle, he voiced concerns about Trump’s impact on democracy and was hesitant about Biden. But when Kamala Harris entered the race, he was supportive.
