Just days after Wendy Williams’ son spoke out alleging she is being mistreated by her team, the former talk show host’s manager has stepped forward to address her son’s claims.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, talent manager Will Selby responded to the allegations and provided an update on Williams, saying she’s once again undergoing treatment at a wellness center.

“Wendy is at a facility doing her best to be her best. She’s taking it day by day,” Selby said, before going on to refute claims that the broadcast personality is being exploited.

Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., made headlines on Monday (June 5) when The U.S. Sun published an interview with him, where he claimed that her team — including Selby — was “taking advantage” of her amid her ongoing health issues and struggles with alcoholism.

In response to these claims, Selby told ET, “Taking advantage of her for what? To get what? To do what? I’m not here to brag, but I was doing just OK before Wendy came along and I insisted on helping her because she requested my assistance.”

Williams’ manager also said every decision about her care must undergo court approval due to her guardianship.

“Wendy is under a guardianship. Everything that she does gets approved by the guardianship. A court-appointed guardianship. So, no one, even if they wanted to take advantage of her — everything has to get approved by that court,” he stated. “So, any type of business dealings that we do, Wendy, myself and anyone — we have to get the guardianship to sign off on it. So how can anyone take advantage of her?”

Selby also expressed frustration with the negative press surrounding Williams, urging people to focus on her well-being.

“Why don’t we just stop for a moment and just say, ‘Hey, how is she? Is she doing OK today?’ Why is that not the focus? Why isn’t that what we’re talking about on a daily basis?” he asked.

Williams’ 22-year-old son with her ex-husband Kevin Hunter Sr., explained that his mother cannot handle liquor at the same “rate” that a “normal” person would due to her various health conditions — which include Graves’ disease and lymphedema.

“It’s gotten to a point where yes, it could have that effect that it might be fatal because it affects her way worse than a normal person, since it stays in her system,” Kevin Hunter Jr. explained.

Williams’ son went on to insinuate that her team encourages her drinking in order to manipulate the star.

“There are a lot of people who are very aware that there is an issue with her drinking, and how that issue may be helped,” Hunter Jr. said, “but I think these people are taking advantage of it while allowing it to play out to make it look like they aren’t causing the issue.”
