Wendy Williams’ son has gone public with concerns about his mom, saying the former talk show host is “being taken advantage” by her inner circle as her health deteriorates.

Kevin Hunter Jr. made the allegation in an interview published Monday (June 5), by The U.S. Sun.

“I know there are all sorts of things happening that I know in her right mind she would never agree to,” Hunter told the outlet.

“As hard as it is seeing her being taken advantage of, I know that if I’m making sure she, as a person, is okay, that is the important thing,” he added. “Because eventually, she’s going to realize the craziness that’s been going on.”

Hunter, 22, is Williams’ only child with ex-husband, Kevin Hunter Sr.

Her son said the people around Williams are profiting as she struggles.

“What’s been made more important by the people around her is that while her health may not be great, she needs to keep on earning income, and in my opinion that should not be a priority at all,” Hunter said.

He added that his mom has a serious problem with alcohol.

“I know the rate that she uses alcohol isn’t like a normal person — and we’ve spoken about it,” he explained.

He said Williams, 58, was getting better when she lived with him in Florida from late 2021 to Spring 2022. During that time, he encouraged her to eat healthier, exercise more, and they went to restaurants that didn’t serve alcohol.

Last month The U.S. Sun reported that Williams was hospitalized in New York to address a “health crisis,” and missed a lucrative speaking engagement.

Hunter said in the new interview he learned his mom’s health had taken a turn from her jeweler-turned-manager, Will Selby.

“Will called to tell me she was in the hospital,” he said.

Now Hunter fears his mom’s health problems coupled with alcohol use “might be fatal.”

“And it’s gotten to a point where yes, it could have that effect that it might be fatal because it affects her way worse than a normal person since it stays in her system,” he said.

Williams went to rehab to address “overall health issues” in September 2022, as previously reported.

Yet Hunter told The U.S. Sun his mom continued to sign contracts, either during or immediately after her treatment.

“They had her in a position where she was agreeing to a lot that she shouldn’t have. When I heard that, that turned me off,” he said.

Hunter has had financial problems of his own. In December 2022, he was evicted from his $2 million apartment in Miami for failure to pay rent, multiple media outlets reported.

Legal documents obtained by Page Six revealed he was served with an eviction lawsuit in August 2022. The documents said Williams paid $100,000 upfront for the first year of her son’s apartment. But in his response to the eviction lawsuit, Hunter said his mom stopped paying when she was placed under financial guardianship.

Williams has faced a string of personal issues dating back years.

In a March 2019 episode of The Wendy Williams Show, she tearfully revealed she had been staying in a sober living house.

“You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past. And I never went to a place to get the treatment,” she said on the episode.

The following month, she filed for divorce from husband Kevin Hunter after 21 years of marriage amid reports that he fathered a child with another woman.

Williams’ daytime show was canceled last year, with the final episode airing in June 2022.

The popular media personality did not appear on a single episode of the show’s final season as she battled health problems.

An August 2022 cover story in The Hollywood Reporter said the situation on the show began to “snowball” back in 2017, when Williams collapsed on set. The article described months of chaos and crisis meetings, as Williams battled addiction and health problems.
