Tyler Perry’s A Fall from Grace is a bona fide hit.

Perry took to Twitter Monday to let fans know the thriller was streamed 26 million times on Netflix in the first week after its January 17 debut.

“I’m trying to take all this in. My Tyler Perry audience, the army that’s standing behind me, one day they’re going to realize that I don’t walk alone because y’all are with me,” Perry said in a video he shared with fans.

Perry then thanked his fans for “having his back.”

“My heart is full. I’m grateful, I’m humbled by it,” he added. “I’ve always wanted my movies to open around the world, and that was the first time, so thank you Netflix. Thank you. I saw you all around the world watching. Thank you.”

A Fall From Grace centers on Grace Waters (Crystal Fox), who was recently divorced and falls for a younger man named Shannon, played by Mehcad Brooks. Unfortunately, their dream relationship turns into a nightmare when he steals her identity and money from the company where she works, then frames her for the crime. Shannon disappears, leading police to believe he’s been killed, and Grace ends up in jail.

Phylicia Rashad, Bresha Webb, and Cicely Tyson round out the main cast. Perry wrote, directed, and has a role in the film, which is his first project released on Netflix.

Perry’s 26 million first week views surpassed the numbers posted by Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated The Irishman, which premiered last fall and was streamed 17 million times in its first week.

Despite the popularity of A Fall from Grace, movie critics immediately dismissed the film. The thriller was widely panned on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, with critics describing it as “ridiculous” and “lousy.”
