In yet another example of don’t believe everything you read online, Tyler Perry has confirmed there’s zero truth to a report claiming House of Payne actress Cassi Davis passed away.

The media mogul took to Instagram on Monday to shut down rumors the actress died of cancer.

“I’ve gotten several calls from people giving me their condolences and I didn’t know what they were talking about. I was sent this article that’s going around. I don’t know how she could have died and nobody told me or her. So I called her and asked her was she dead, and she said ‘hell no!’” Perry captioned the post.

He added that the rumors are hurtful for Davis and her loved ones.

“Can whoever is responsible for this please stop, you better be careful when you speak death over a child of God,” the caption continued. “This woman is loved by millions and you’re hurting a lot of people. Cassi is fine, living her best life with no worries, no cares, no social media, and no drama. She’s waiting to shoot the next season of House of Payne.”

Perry included a screenshot of the article that said Davis had “died of lung cancer at the age of 58.” He wrote the words “This Is A Lie” across the image in red text.

The filmmaker also embedded an audio clip in his post, detailing his conversation with Davis.

“I said, ‘Cassi do you know about these death hoaxes?’ She said, ‘Yes Tyler. This is the third or fourth time this has happened and people just need to stop doing this,'” he explained. “I said, Cassi are you sure you’re not dead? She said, ‘Well, I feel like I’m in heaven because these chicken wings I’m eating are so good.'”

Perry went on to mock the article, which he said included fake details about a star-studded funeral for Davis.

Cassi Davis is best known to fans for her role as Ella Payne on House of Payne and its spinoff The Paynes.

The Holly Springs, Mississippi native has also played Betty Ann “Aunt Bam” in Perry’s films A Madea Homecoming (2022), A Madea Family Funeral (2019), Boo! A Madea Halloween (2016) and other Tyler Perry projects.
