In a statement recorded on Monday, Oct. 21, the former Death Row Records CEO told The Blast he gave Ray J permission to handle everything concerning Death Row Records and music tied to the label, but not movie, TV or book deals.
“I just heard about the article being released regarding that Ray J has all my rights — television, movies, books, and all that type of stuff,” Knight said. “Even though Ray J is not just a friend of mine, that’s a little brother, that’s family, and I respect Ray J and his business dealings, that’s why I choose him as one of the guys to deal with the music side of the future as far as Death Row Records, anything to do [with] Death Row and it’s great to have him cause he will be putting out this incredible album and I heard it before.”

The Compton native then revealed that Nick Cannon will be handling his autobiography.
“Nick Cannon will be doing the book personally as a writer, I know he has all the potential and the spirit to be a great writer, he is a great writer, he will be doing my book, and involved with a lot of other things moving forward,” he said. “I can say he is a trustworthy guy, I think people should take notice of him. He’s probably one of the most power players in the industry today who is honest and real.”
Knight, 54, said he wasn’t trying to discredit Ray J, he just wanted to set the record straight.
He was sentenced to 28 years in prison back in October 2018, for killing a man with his pickup truck during a hit-and-run crash three years earlier.
