Late-night comedians have been having a field day with Will Smith since he slapped Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars, but Saturday Night Live took the mockery to another level.
“Weekend Update” co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che skewered Smith with a string of jokes about his “open marriage,” possible mental health issues, and quitting the film Academy to avoid being kicked out.

Jost kicked things off by reminding the audience that Smith completely melted down over a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. “I think it sets a terrible precedent for having to defend your wife at award shows,” quipped Jost, who’s married to actress Scarlett Johansson.
Che then hinted that Smith may have mental health issues. The comedian also made fun of Will and Jada’s unconventional marriage (In a September 2021 interview with GQ, Smith confirmed they have “freedoms” to see other people).
Che suggested those “freedoms” might be making the Oscar-winning King Richard star “crazy.”
“During his acceptance speech, Will Smith said, ‘Love will make you do crazy things,'” Che said. “You know what else will make you do crazy things? [being] Crazy. But I understand where Will is coming from. I mean, you can’t expect him to sit there and watch another man jump all over his wife without signing an NDA.”

The SNL comedians weren’t done sneering at Smith.
Jost noted the actor had just quit the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “He wasn’t going to, but then Jada gave him that look,” Jost said as a picture flashed on screen of Pinkett Smith looking annoyed while sitting at the Oscars.
Smith quit the Academy on Friday before he was potentially kicked out.
“If Will Smith had been expelled from the Academy, he would have joined a small group of people kicked out of the Academy, including Bill Cosby, Roman Polanski and Harvey Weinstein, or as they’re also known, Bad Boys for Life!” Jost said while name dropping Smith’s 2020 film.

“Also, can we stop pretending everybody knew Jada had alopecia,” Che added. “As much as we’ve heard about Jada and Will’s personal lives, you can’t expect us to retain everything!”
