‘SNL’ Proposes Sending Michael Che to Help Ukraine Fight Russia

With the war in Ukraine raging, Saturday Night Live comic Colin Jost thinks it’s time to send help to Ukrainian forces, in the form of his “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che.

On Friday, President Joe Biden said the U.S. “will not fight the third world war in Ukraine.”

In response to Biden’s comment, Jost said: “I understand but it’s hard to stand by and watch Putin bombing things like schools, a maternity ward, and I’m just going to assume, puppy daycare centers.”

Jost then suggested something to help Ukrainian forces defend their country.

“The situation is so upsetting that I’ve honestly thought about marching down to the nearest Army enlistment office — and signing Che up,” he said to laughter.

Che gave him a confused look before pivoting to a story about surging gas prices after the U.S. banned the import of Russian oil.

The war in Ukraine dominated much of the “Weekend Update” segment, including Che discussing Russia’s response to sanctions by banning the export of Russian-made cars.

“But a Russian-made car is just a drunk bear on roller skates,” he quipped as a picture of a bear on skates popped up on screen.

Russian troops continue shelling major cities in Ukraine and are getting closer to the capital city of Kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Ukraine on Feb. 24, and the unprovoked assault has been relentless.

According to the United Nations, over 2 million people have fled Ukraine for neighboring countries since the conflict began.
