Lil Nas X gave viewers a memorable live performance this weekend on Saturday Night Live, while belting out his new single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” complete with a wardrobe mishap.
The singer and rapper started out by standing in front of a stripper pole similar to scenes from his controversial music video for the song.
Wearing a cropped leather top, matching low-rise pants and sneakers (Satan shoes? – we’re not sure), he gyrated on stage, grabbed his crotch several times, and crowd surfed over a group of male dancers dressed in chaps.

Before he ended the performance, Lil Nas X worked the pole, when suddenly his pants ripped. He appeared surprised, grabbed his crotch and continued to perform with his hand covering the area for over 30 seconds until the end of the song.
He tweeted about the wardrobe malfunction immediately after the performance, writing: “NOT MY PANTS RIPPED ON LIVE TV.”
Some fans responded to his tweet with memes of animated character Spongebob Squarepants also ripping his pants.
@BLAIRHATESU tweeted: “From the Spongebob references in the ‘Montero’ mv to this now. This man truly is a real life Spongebob.”

@MessyMindofMe tweeted: “Call my seamstress. #SNL #LilNasX” and asked, “Did he just split his pants?”
The artist also joked about the incident with his followers in a separate tweet: “I wanted to do my pole routine so bad this is what I get.”
Later in the show, he performed “Sun Goes Down,” a song he has described on social media as “very important” due to its subject matter about being a closeted adolescent.
