‘SNL’: Billy Porter, Lin-Manuel Miranda Spoof CNN Equality Town Hall

Billy Porter got political this weekend on Saturday Night Live.

The Emmy-winning Pose star served as announcer on the cold open, as the NBC sketch series spoofed CNN’s Equality in America town hall.

“He may live in the projects, but ladies, he ain’t no project. It’s Cory Booker!” Porter said while introducing the New Jersey senator, played by Chris Redd.

Porter then welcomed Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro.

“From the house of urban deliciousness, it’s Julián Castro,” he said. Castro was played by Hamilton creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“First of all, gracias. As a Democrat, I want to apologize for not being gay,” Miranda’s Castro said. “But I promise to do better in the future. However, I am Latino, which we can all agree is something.”

“Look, I’m young, I’m diverse. I’m the Latino-bama,” he added. “Let’s get that hashtag going, #latinobama.”

After Miranda’s time was up, another special guest joined the conversation.

“And now, the Delaware daddy whose only vice is the choo-choo train. It’s Vice President Biden, y’all!” Porter said as he introduced Joe Biden, played by Oscar-nominated actor Woody Harrelson.

“I’m glad we’re doing this. The vast majority of people in America are not homophobic,” Harrelson’s Biden said. “They’re just scared of gay people.”

“That’s what homophobic means, Joe,” explained Alex Moffat as CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

The sketch ended with Harrelson struggling to find the appropriate words for the LGBTQ audience.

“Whether you’re gay, lesby, trans-genital or queef, you’re okay with Joe,” Harrelson said to laughter.

The group then announced, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
