Motown legend Smokey Robinson is pushing back after being accused of preying on former female employees in a $50 million lawsuit.

Robinson responded with a $500 million countersuit filed Wednesday, May 28.

In the complaint obtained by Deadline, Robinson and his wife, Frances Robinson, accused the anonymous Jane Does of defamation, slander, emotional distress, financial elder abuse, and invasion of privacy.

“The Robinsons did not abuse, harm, or take advantage of Plaintiffs; they treated Plaintiffs with the utmost kindness and generosity,” the suit says. “Unfortunately, the depths of Plaintiffs’ avarice and greed knows no bounds.”

The suit goes on to allege the women “asked for and accepted help from the Robinsons, including thousands of dollars, monetary support for members of at least one Plaintiff’s family, clothes, dental surgery and even a car” over the years.

But while “the Robinsons were being extraordinarily generous,” the suit claims, “plaintiffs were concocting an extortionate plan to take everything from the Robinsons and wrongfully destroy the Robinsons’ well-built reputations.”

The countersuit also says the women first demanded $100 million to stay quiet about the “fabricated” claims but turned to the courts when that didn’t work. Robinson and his legal team insist they treated the women as “extended family.”

This all comes after attorneys for four housekeepers filed the original lawsuit on May 6, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The unidentified Jane Does alleged they were sexually assaulted multiple times at Robinson’s home in Chatsworth, in LA’s San Fernando Valley.

The women’s complaint accused Robinson of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and creating a hostile work environment.

Robinson’s wife is also named in the suit, with the women claiming she failed to stop the alleged assaults. The lawsuit said the alleged assaults occurred between 2007 and 2024.

As previously reported, days after the women’s lawsuit was filed, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department opened a criminal investigation.

Robinson has denied the “ugly” accusations since the civil suit was filed.

The women are represented by Los Angeles-based Harris & Hayden law firm.

Following the countersuit on Wednesday, attorneys John Harris and Herbert Hayden told TMZ, “The cross-complaint filed by Mr. Christopher Frost on behalf of William ‘Smokey’ Robinson and Frances Robinson is nothing more than an attempt to silence and intimidate the survivors of Mr. Robinson’s sexual battery and assault. It is a baseless and vindictive legal maneuver designed to re-victimize, shift blame, and discourage others from coming forward.”
