Sing Sing, a film shining a light on an inmate with purpose, will soon be available for streaming.

Based on a true story, the drama is set to make its streaming debut on HBO’s Max in March.

Released last summer, the film stars Colman Domingo in the lead role as Divine G, an inmate serving 25 years to life for a crime he says he did not commit. He finds purpose through a prison theater group at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

“We’re here to become human again and enjoy the things that are not in our reality,” a voice says in the trailer.

The drama has been a major awards season contender. It secured three Academy Award nominations: Best Actor for Domingo, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Song.

According to IMDb, the film has already won 62 awards and received 192 nominations across various ceremonies.

As previously reported, the movie is based on a real rehabilitation program and features an ensemble of formerly incarcerated actors. Clarence Maclin, whose real-life story inspired the script, is among them.

Maclin has been nominated for several awards, including a BAFTA and a Critics Choice Award.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama became the first film released in theaters and prisons at the same time. It was made available to nearly a million incarcerated people through tablets in more than 1,100 correctional facilities across the U.S.

This film marks Domingo’s second Oscar nomination. He was also nominated for Best Actor last year for Rustin.

The main cast also includes Paul Raci, an Oscar nominee for The Sound of Metal, and Sean San José (The Other Barrio).

Greg Kwedar directed and co-wrote the drama, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and was later acquired by A24 for theatrical release.

The film is produced by Monique Walton, Clint Bentley, and Greg Kwedar. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Colman Domingo, Raúl Domingo, Larry Kalas, Larry Kelly, Nancy Schafer, Clarence Maclin, and John “Divine G” Whitfield.

Sing Sing will start streaming Friday, March 21, on Max and will debut on HBO linear on Saturday, March 22, at 8 p.m. ET.
