Shannon Sharpe has issued an apology after trading insults with Mike Epps, over the comedian’s recent comedy routine bashing Sharpe for his viral interview with Katt Williams.

Fans recorded video of Epps at a recent stand-up show saying he turned down an invitation from Sharpe to visit the Hall of Famer’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. Epps then joked about the NFL legend’s sexuality and said he resembles Tyler Perry’s cross-dressing character, Madea.

“That n—a Shannon Sharpe called me trying to do an interview. I said, ‘No Madea, I ain’t doing no interview. So you can sit across from me and look at my balls while I’m sitting down,’” Epps said on stage. “I thought he was going to attack Katt. The n—a’s sh-t is called Shay Shay, the n—a is telling you. Put a wig on that n—a and tell me that ain’t motherf—king Madea’s sister.”

Sharpe fired back at Epps on Sunday’s episode of his “Nightcap” sports podcast with fellow NFL star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.

Ochocinco claimed he didn’t know who Sharpe was talking about, but he agreed with his co-host as the insults flew.

Sharpe never said Epps’ name, but he did threaten to expose the comedian for “lying” by releasing direct messages between the two.

“Mention my name again and I’mma put the DMs out, and I don’t like doing this, but you’re lying. I don’t care about all that other stuff, you can say I’m gay and you can say… I don’t care about that,” Sharpe said. “I won’t let you lie on my name. Now you can say all that other stuff, I can deal with that. I heard that a thousand times.”

Sharpe was obviously in his feelings and urged his followers to let Epps know he wouldn’t tolerate any slander.

“I’m telling you this and I want somebody to send it to you,” Sharpe said. “Y’all know who I’m talking about.”

The saga took another turn when Epps released a since-deleted Instagram video on Monday, Feb. 12, admitting he reached out to Sharpe after the NFL star sat down with Epps’ Friday After Next co-star, Katt Williams.

“I know this grown man is not mad at me. So many people talked crazy about you. They was on Saturday Night Live talking crazy about you, imitating you. Now you want to fight me?” Epps said. “I’m not gonna lie. I did DM you to get on the show. But I DM’d you to get on the show because you brought my name up when you was sitting there with Katt, and you was trying to get him to talk crazy about me, but he didn’t.”

“Second of all, talking about ‘pulling up on me,’ you gone be at the All-Star [game] I’mma be at the All-Star in my hometown and I’mma see you,” Epps added. “And Shay Shay, you did look like Madea sitting there, you was looking zesty. I’m not saying you’re gay, but you was looking zesty. You looked like Big Freedia sitting there, you need to take them tight a– shirts off.”

In a bit of savvy marketing, Epps then plugged his new Netflix special, which drops on Feb. 20.

Well, it looks like Sharpe realized he got a little too worked up. On Monday afternoon, he issued a statement on social media and admitted the situation should have been “handled differently.”

“I apologize 2 fam, friends, love ones, and my fans,” he said.

According to Sharpe, he plans to meet with Epps in Indianapolis this weekend when they’re both in town for the NBA All-Star Game.
