Late music legend Prince will be posthumously honored with a long-overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025.
Walk of Famers Niecy Nash, Joe Mantegna and Jimmy Jam announced the new honorees at a live press conference on Monday, June 24.
“My junior high school classmate in Minneapolis, Prince is going on the Walk of Fame,” Jimmy Jam shared. “Prince, you’re up watching from above but you’re going to be watching from here with us to celebrate. We love that.”

When he was alive, Prince turned down two separate offers to receive a star on the Walk of Fame because he said he was “not ready,” according to People magazine.
This year, the late singer’s estate gave its consent for the star.
Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, the musician was a trailblazer who wrote, produced, performed, set fashion trends, and starred in the semi-autobiographical film Purple Rain.
He was best known for his smash hits “When Doves Cry, “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Purple Rain,” “Kiss,” “Raspberry Beret,” “U Got The Look,” “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World,” and “1999.” He also wrote the Sinéad O’Connor hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and penned Patti LaBelle’s powerful single “Yo Mister.”
Prince died at age 57 in 2016, after reaching a musical career that included seven Grammys and a best original song Oscar for “Purple Rain.” He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
In addition to Prince, next year the Walk of Fame will welcome Fantasia Barrino, Courtney B. Vance, Nia Long, Busta Rhymes, Sherri Shepherd, Bill Duke, the Isley Brothers and many more.
The recipients were selected from the fields of film, television, music, live theater, radio, and sports entertainment.
Nominees have two years from the date of selection to schedule a star dedication ceremony before the offer expires. Upcoming ceremonies will be announced on walkoffame.com 10 days before each ceremony.
