The powers behind Power decided to update the show’s theme song for the sixth and final season, but many fans say “no thanks.”
While viewers are excited about today’s Season 6 premiere of the hit Starz drama, there was much less enthusiasm for the remixed version of “Big Rich Town.”
The original song was written and performed by 50 Cent and Joe, and played over the opening credits for the first five seasons.

For the show’s final season, Joe was replaced by Trey Songz to give the track a new feel.
Power executive producer 50 Cent shared details about the change on Twitter in July, saying the song was being remixed with Trey Songz and Bronx-based rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

Most fans didn’t notice until just before the show’s Aug. 25 season premiere. Reaction flooded Twitter this weekend, and the response was overwhelmingly negative.
“Nobody asked for Trey Songz to sing Big Rich Town,” one fan tweeted.
Another person wrote: “Damn! Damn! Damn! Why TF y’all let Trey Songz destroy the intro???”
“We did NOT need Trey Songz singing the intro to Power! No ma’am, return to sender,” someone else tweeted.
While another added: “Power TV give us the original theme song back …thank you Trey but no thanks.”
Someone else wrote: “Who told 50 Cent to take Joe off the intro & add Trey Songz? He changed the lyrics too!”

The Season 6 premiere of Power dropped at midnight on the STARZ App. The premium cable network has said the final season will pick up with James “Ghost” St. Patrick seeking vengeance because his former drug partner and brother in arms must pay for the ultimate betrayal.
The sixth season called “The Final betrayal” will consist of 15 episodes instead of the usual 10, and it will be broken up into two parts. The first half premieres Aug. 25 and consists of 10 episodes. The last five episodes will air in January 2020.
