The historical drama centers on clashes between the old and new monied elite in New York City during the Gilded Age in the 1880s.

Rashad will play Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland, described as “a woman from a prominent family in Newport with ties dating back to the American Revolution. She has high standards (and an occasionally sharp tongue). She is unwilling to compromise the standards and expectations of her elite and exclusive social group — particularly when it comes to her son.”

Donica will portray her son, Dr. William Kirkland, a “kind, handsome, doctor from the prominent Kirkland family. He isn’t as narrow minded as the older members of his elite social circle. He was inspired to help others by becoming a doctor after visiting Arthur Scott’ pharmacy as a boy.”

Mitchell will play Frederick Kirkland, the head of the family and “the pastor of a prominent Black church.”

Clark has been cast as Joan Carlton, a “kind, genial woman from the old money side of New York high society. Sincere and supportive of her son, she is surprised to find herself in a complicated and insulting situation.”

The series comes from creator and executive producer Julian Fellowes; executive producer Gareth Neame; executive producer David Crockett; director/executive producer Michael Engler; executive producer Bob Greenblatt; writer/executive producer Sonja Warfield; and executive producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield.

The season 2 cast included Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Audra McDonald, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran, Taissa Farmiga, Jack Gilpin, Simon Jones, Sullivan Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Debra Monk, Donna Murphy, Kristine Nielsen, Kelli O’Hara, Patrick Page, Harry Richardson, Taylor Richardson, Blake Ritson, Douglas Sills, Erin Wilhelmi, Nathan Lane, John Douglas Thompson, Ashlie Atkinson, Laura Benanti, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Christopher Denham, David Furr, Ward Horton, Matilda Lawler and Robert Sean Leonard.

The Guilded Age is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television. A premiere date for season 3 will be announced later.
