Pharrell Williams has confirmed his cousin was the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Virginia Beach this past weekend.
The singer and music producer posted a picture on social media Monday of his cousin Donovon Lynch, 25, and asked for transparency in the investigation.
Williams tweeted: “The loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure. My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings. It is critical my family and the other victims’ families get the transparency they deserve. VA Beach is the epitome of hope and we will get through this.”

According to local Virginia ABC station 13NEWS WVEC, police said a gun recovered at the scene of the officer-involved shooting belonged to Lynch. The station also reported earlier that Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate said the officer involved in the shooting did not activate his body camera and therefore no bodycam footage of the incident is available.
As previously reported, the incident in which Lynch was killed was one of three shootings at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Friday night.
Former Bad Girls Club cast member Deshayla E. Harris also died in the violence. Police said in a news release Harris was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of the second shooting. Eight other people were injured in the violence and transported to area hospitals.
