Queen Sugar is set to return with new drama surrounding the Bordelons and new castmembers.
Season 4 of the series from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay will premiere on June 12, with Erica Tazel, Kendall Clark and Walter Perez joining the cast, OWN said in a statement.
Tazel (Roots) portrays Deesha Brown-Sonnier, an attorney and socially conscious neighbor and mother of Joie, and will be a recurring guest star.
Clark makes her television debut as Joie, the daughter of a single mother who becomes friends with Blue. Clark will also be a recurring guest star

Perez (The Avengers) portrays Romero Rodriguez, naturally sexy man with gentle manners who begins dating Charley Bordelon after helping her start a dead battery and then runs into her in the hospital where he works as a physician assistant. Perez has been upped to series regular.
Continuing a creative initiative launched in the show’s first season, DuVernay has again assembled an all-female directing team. Season 4 directors include Cheryl Dunye, who will also serve as a producing director. Other directors include Carmen Marrón, Numa Perrier, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun and Tchaiko Omawale. More directors will be announced at a later date.
The series’ fourth season will follow the Bordelons as they find themselves continuing their fight to save the family farm and preserve their father’s legacy as they navigate their own personal journeys, according to OWN.
Based on the book by the same name from Natalie Baszile. Queen Sugar is produced for OWN by Forward Movement and Harpo Films in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television. The show’s executive producers include Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Garnes and Anthony Sparks.
The complete third season of Queen Sugar is now available on Hulu, for viewers to catch up before the new season begins.
Season 4 of Queen Sugar will premiere Wednesday, June 12 (9 p.m. ET/PT) on OWN.
