Gayle King shared a little too much information about her BFF Oprah Winfrey on live television, now the two are clearing things up.
King, 69, says she was “surprised” by the headlines that stemmed from her comments on CBS Mornings that Winfrey, 70, had a “serious” stomach condition, and couldn’t make her scheduled appearance on the show because she was hospitalized.
“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — where stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” King told viewers on Tuesday, June 11. “But needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, she had an IV. So it was a very serious thing.”

After her comments went viral, the morning news anchor hopped on a video call with Winfrey later in the day to clarify.
“I never said you were hospitalized. I did say that you had a stomach [bug], and something was coming out of both sides, which it was,” King said in the video call she posted on Instagram.
“I was in the emergency room, I was so dehydrated,” Winfrey responded. “I had a dry mouth and I couldn’t keep enough water down to get hydrated, so I went to the emergency room for that, and that’s just it.”
King noted that her longtime friend still looked a little “weakish” and wasn’t back to 100 percent.
“I’m not 100, I’m on my way to 100,” Winfrey responded.
The media mogul added that five people in her household had contracted the same stomach bug, and she encouraged everyone to wash their hands frequently.
“The doctor told me that it lives on the door knobs and railings for like ten hours,” said Winfrey.
The talk show veteran added that she’s been flooded with calls and emails from people checking to make sure she’s OK.
