Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz return to the high-stakes world of espionage in first-look images from their new film Back in Action.
The two play seemingly average parents, who in reality gave up their lives as CIA agents to start a family. Years later, they’re dragged back into action when their cover gets blown. The project marks Diaz’s first movie role in ten years.
Netflix unveiled details about the action comedy on Wednesday, May 15, at its upfront presentation in New York City. Diaz and Foxx took the stage to dish about working together.
“A lot of people don’t know this, but after Cameron and I did Any Given Sunday and Annie together, we became friends in real life, and I’ve been begging her to come play with me again. We all know there’s just something about her,” Foxx said, referring to Diaz’s blockbuster 1998 film There’s Something About Mary.
Diaz added, “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner, on-screen and off.”

The cast also includes Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson.
The film made headlines in April 2023, when production was temporarily halted after Foxx was hospitalized in Atlanta for an undisclosed illness. The actor has since recovered.
In March of this year, Foxx was honored at the African American Film Critics Association’s Special Achievement Awards luncheon, and told the audience he plans to reveal what caused his mystery illness — in an upcoming comedy routine.
“Everybody wants to know what happened and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I gotta do it in my way. I’m going to do it in a funny way, I’m going to be on stage when I tell you, when I go back to the stand-up roots,” Foxx said.
So far there’s no word on when that will happen, but fans can see Foxx Back in Action when the film drops on Netflix Nov. 15, 2024.
Seth Gordon directed the movie and co-wrote the script with Brendan O’Brien.
Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, Brendan O’Brien, Tim Lewis are executive producers on the film.
Producers include Jenno Topping, Peter Chernin and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett for Chernin Entertainment; Beau Bauman for Good One Productions; Seth Gordon for Exhibit A.
