The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards suffered a crushing defeat in the ratings department.
The number of viewers watching Monday’s telecast fell sharply compared to 2018, with the show losing more than 40 percent of its audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A total of 1.8 million viewers tuned in to the initial broadcast across fellow Viacom networks MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET and CMT. That’s compared to last year’s 3.08 million viewers who watched on those channels, marking a 42 percent decline.
The demographic ratings for this year’s show also fell. Among adults 18-49, the kudofest averaged 0.8, down 43 percent from a 1.4 rating a year ago.
