Maya Rudolph will return to NBC’s Saturday Night Live to play Vice President Kamala Harris during the show’s milestone 50th season.

Rudolph will appear on the show  throughout the 2024 presidential election.

Variety reports the production for the third season of Loot, the Apple TV+ comedy series Rudolph currently stars in, is being pushed back in order to allow the actress and comedian the time to commit to her SNL duties.

Loot and SNL are both produced by Universal Television and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.

Variety speculates Rudolph will play Harris in a presidential debate against fellow SNL cast member James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump.

Rudolph has previously won an Emmy Award for her work as Harris on SNL. She first played the vice president in December 2019 and won the 2020 Emmy for guest actress in a comedy series for her role as Harris in the presidential debate.

Rudolph coined the term FUNT (America’s Fun Aunt) on SNL to describe Harris.

In 2019, Harris replied to a post from Harris and SNL on X (formerly Twitter) by writing, “YESSSSSSSSSSENATOR!!! An honor to attempt to be as cool as you.”

Prior to being elected vice president, Harris was a U.S. senator from California from 2017 to 2021.

Rudolph first became a member of the NBC sketch comedy show in 2000. Besides her work on SNL, she has appeared in film roles including Sisters, Life of the Party, and Disenchanted, and lent her voice for roles in animated films including Big Hero 6, The Angry Birds Movie and Luca.

Rudolph has also voiced the character of Connie the Hormone Monstress on Netflix’s Big Mouth and has won Emmy awards for her work on the animated series including for character voice-over performance in 2021.

SNL returns on Sept 28.
