Lil Wayne will soon be suiting up for a gig on the NFL network.
The Louisiana rapper is joining the cable network as a commentator on the NFL GameDay Morning show, just weeks after he was passed over for a chance to perform at this season’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The league announced the news Sunday, Nov. 10 on Instagram, saying Lil Wayne — known to fans as Weezy and Lil Tunechi — will contribute to the weekly football analysis program.
“Us finding out @liltunechi will be joining GameDay Morning starting next week,” read the post, which included a video of Weezy on the field with his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.

According to an NFL press release, Lil Wayne officially joins the show on the Sunday, Nov. 17, episode at 9 a.m. ET. He’ll appear for the rest of the season alongside Rich Eisen, Kurt Warner, Steve Mariucci and Gerald McCoy.
News of Wayne’s new opportunity came exactly two months after the iconic rapper made heartfelt comments on Instagram Live saying he was shattered when he wasn’t selected to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX in his hometown of New Orleans.
“That hurt, hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot,” Wayne said on Sept. 12, as previously reported.
The five-time Grammy winner expressed interest in performing at the Super Bowl earlier this year, during an appearance on YG’s “4HUNNID” podcast, according to Billboard.
“I will not lie to you, I have not got a call,” Wayne said during the February interview. “But we all praying, we keeping our fingers crossed.”
The NFL and halftime producer Jay-Z had other plans. In September, they announced Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the 2025 Apple Music-sponsored halftime show.
Kendrick is one of the most acclaimed hip-hop artists currently on the music scene. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album Damn, and has taken home 17 Grammy Awards, per Grammy.com.
Just last week he was nominated for seven more Grammys, including the coveted record of the year award for his Drake diss track “Not Like Us.”
You can catch Kendrick Lamar’s performance at Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, 2025 in the Superdome.
