Lil Rel Howery unloads on outspoken pastors in his new HBO comedy special, Lil Rel Howery: I Said It. Y’all Thinking It.
“These pastors are losing their f–king minds! The old n—er that talked about Beyoncé said, ‘She worships the devil!’ That’s what he said,” Lil Rel quips in the trailer. “You dumb motherfu–er, you just promoted the devil.”
The comedian was referring to Bishop Patrick Wooden, who in August took aim at the superstar singer for her new single “Church Girl.” In a viral sermon from his North Carolina pulpit, Wooden told his congregation, “Beyoncé just released a sacrilege… The only thing I can account for some of this stuff is somebody sold their soul to the devil.”

Lil Rel found comedic material in the sermon and added it to his HBO Original special — which was filmed at the Chicago Theater in his hometown of Chicago.
Per HBO, the comedian “gets real on topics such as fame, fatherhood, and therapy – and performs sharp satirical takes on prominent figures in pop culture and beyond.”
This is the comic’s second HBO special after Live in Crenshaw in 2019.
In addition to stand-up, Lil Rel has a role in the Amazon series Harlem and several films in production. Among his previous acting credits are NBC’s The Carmichael Show, HBO’s Insecure, the short-lived Fox sitcom Rel, and the film Get Out.
Lil Rel Howery: I Said It. Y’all Thinking It is written, performed, and executive produced by the comedian. Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Jeannáe Rouzan-Clay, and Avi Gilbert are co-executive producers and Ali LeRoi directs.
The special begins stream Nov. 12 on HBO Max.
