Chris Redd has offered new details about the violent Oct. 26 attack outside a New York City comedy club, that left him hospitalized.

The comic was on his way to perform a stand-up set at the Comedy Cellar, when the attack unfolded around 9:40 p.m. Redd is now clarifying reports that the assault happened after he got out of a car.

“I walked there like any New Yorker,” he explained.

Bystanders rendered aid and he was transported to an area hospital. The suspect fled before police arrived.

“The dude just hit me and ran off. I fell down so fast. I didn’t even know I fell until I looked at the [surveillance] footage,” Redd said.

The comedian added that blood was pouring from his face.

“It wasn’t really about the pain at that point, it was just so much blood. [It wasn’t a good idea to] chase him down the street with blood gushing out of my face,” he said.

Some media reports said the suspect yanked a chain from Redd’s neck, but the comedian says he doesn’t think the incident was an attempted mugging.

Finding humor in the attack. Redd says he plans to add details about it in his comedy set when he returns to the stage.

“I got some jokes for sure,” he quipped. “As many jokes as other people have, nobody has as many jokes about this as I do.”

The comedian has a new HBO Max comedy special titled Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This? that began streaming today.
