Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal will address the drama surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s May 2018 wedding, screenwriter Scarlett Lacey revealed Tuesday.
The upcoming TV movie is a sequel to Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance, and will cover everything from Markle’s supposed feud with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, to her fractured relationship with her father, Thomas Markle.
“This film deals with the drama of planning a wedding: the moment you’d much rather elope, the moment your family might mess it all up – and they nearly do,” Lacey told Vanity Fair. “The film definitely addresses a lot of the family drama.”
The writer said she drew inspiration from sources connected to the couple, stating: “Some of the people I talk to are close to the royals. Others are Hollywood friends of Meghan, and others are journalists and experts in the royal field.”

On Tuesday, Lifetime released the first photos from Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal to drum up buzz about the film.
One snap shows Tiffany Smith (Supernatural), the actress who will play the Duchess of Sussex, wearing a wedding tiara.
Another photo depicts Smith and Genius actor Charlie Field, who plays Prince Harry, in an embrace.
Field and Smith signed on to the project in February and replaced the film’s original Harry and Meghan, actors Murray Fraser and Parisa Fitz-Henley. The choice spurred mixed reactions, and it’s not clear why the network decided to go in a different direction.
Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal will premiere on May 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
