The organized crime unit has worked its final case.
NBC canceled Law & Order: Organized Crime, with the news breaking on Thursday, April 16.
The demise of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit spinoff is probably not a huge surprise for fans, since season 5 concluded in June 2025, with no word about a sixth season.
The series followed Detective Elliot Stabler, with actor Chris Meloni reprising the role he originated on SVU. The spinoff found Stabler returning to New York after a decade abroad to rebuild his life following a devastating personal loss.
The cast for the final season of the series also included Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, Rick Gonzalez, and Dean Norris.
Meloni addressed the cancellation in an emotional video he posted to Instagram Thursday.
“Hey everyone, I just saw that they announced ‘OC, Organized Crime’ won’t be coming back,” the actor said. “So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back.”
He fought back tears and said playing Stabler was a dream job.
“Good ride. It was a good ride, I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride, but thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of. Nearly 17 odd years,” he shared.
Law & Order: Organized Crime premiered on NBC in April 2021. In 2024, the network announced the series was renewed for a fifth season and would move to Peacock as it struggled to build a larger TV audience.
Season 5 began streaming in April 2025, with the 10 episodes later airing on NBC.
The drama was produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment. Executive producers included Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, John Shiban, Mike Slovis, Christopher Meloni, Peter Jankowski, and Tim Walsh.
NBC renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit this week for season 28.
