Kevin Hart says he’s planning to “shock the world” with his upcoming Netflix drama series True Story.
Hart is executive producing and will co-star in the limited series alongside Wesley Snipes. The drama centers on a fictional comedian (Hart), who reconnects with his long-lost older brother (Snipes) during a comedy tour stop. What follows is a night that could threaten the comic’s career.
The project is written and executive produced by Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman.
“Kevin Hart’s career is one defined by courageous creative risks and Wesley Snipes is a legendary talent — together they are truly a dream team,” Newman said in a statement Wednesday to The Hollywood Reporter. “I am absolutely thrilled to be working with these two.”
Hart shared news about the series with fans on Instagram: “I still can’t believe that this is happening…. I wanted to do a series that would shock the world. So I teamed up with my brotha Eric Newman who is one of the best writers/creators/producers in Hollywood… If you watched Narcos on Netflix, then you are familiar with his work.”
“We cracked the code on this one….it’s unbelievable. Now here is the kicker….I get to work with @realwesleysnipes ….are you [F-ING] KIDDING ME,” he added.
Charles Murray will serve as showunner and co-executive producer. Stephen Williams and Hanelle Culpepper will direct.
Kevin Hart co-starred in the 2017 drama film The Upside with Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman. The comedian is currently filming The Man from Toronto, which is set to be released next year. Snipes will next be seen in Coming 2 America.
A release date for Netflix’s True Story will be announced later.
