Kevin Hart and his driver were hospitalized Sunday after the comedian’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda careened off a Southern California highway and rolled down an embankment.
The single-car collision occurred at 12:45 a.m. on Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol.
Hart, 40, sustained “major back injuries” and was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, the CHP said. The 28-year-old male driver was airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. A third person in the car, a 31-year-old woman, had only minor complaints of pain and was not hospitalized.

Authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle when it turned onto eastbound Mulholland Highway.
“Two of the three occupants were trapped inside,” the CHP release said. “The remaining occupant and the owner of the vehicle, Kevin Hart, left the scene to his nearby residence to get medical attention.”
The driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the CHP.
TMZ, which was among the first outlets to report on the crash, posted pictures from the scene. The photos showed Hart’s classic car sustained extensive damage, and the roof was sawed off to free the driver and the woman from the vehicle.
