Kerry Washington Honored With Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Kerry Washington can now add a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to her list of accomplishments.

The actress, producer, director, author and activist was honored on Monday, Dec. 2, with the 2,797th star on the Los Angeles landmark.

Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and media mogul Tyler Perry joined Washington for the unveiling ceremony at 6258 Hollywood Blvd., in front of W Hollywood hotel.

Washington’s husband Nnamdi Asomugha and Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos were seated in the audience.

The actress said she’s long been inspired by an uncle and her parents, who encouraged her to reach for the stars.

“They taught me to believe and to pursue. And so here we are. Mom, dad, can you believe it? An actual star,” said Washington. “You made a wish and it came true and now I am swirling in a galaxy of other stars, all encouraging each other to shine brightly and light the way for somebody else’s dreams.”

Washington is perhaps best known to audiences for her role as D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on Scandal, which ran on ABC from 2012 to 2018.

A native of The Bronx, New York, Washington is an Emmy-winning producer (Live in Front of a Studio Audience: ‘All in the Family’ and ‘Good Times’).

Her directing credits include Insecure, Scandal, SMILF, and the pilot episode of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt, which comes from Washington’s Simpson Street production company.

Among her film credits are Django Unchained, Ray, The Last King of Scotland, Save the Last Dance, Lift, For Colored Girls, Peeples, Lakeview Terrace, Miracle at St. Anna, Fantastic Four, I Think I Love My Wife, The Dead Girl, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Our Song.

Washington’s star ceremony took place in the days leading up to the release of her new film, The Six Triple Eight, which premieres Dec. 20 on Netflix.

Tyler Perry wrote and directed the war drama, about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII.
