Kelis’ husband, photographer Mike Mora, has died after battling stage 4 stomach cancer. He was 37.
The “Milkshake” singer’s management team confirmed the news of Mora’s death in a statement to Entertainment Tonight on March 14.
“Sadly, it’s true that Mike Mora has passed away. We would ask all to respect Kelis and her family’s privacy as of right now. Thank you,” Steve Satterhwaite of Red Light Management told the outlet.
Mora opened up about his condition last year in several Instagram posts. He revealed he received his diagnosis in September 2020, and doctors originally gave him 18 months to live.

In October, he uploaded a photo of the paperwork detailing his diagnosis. “Doctors came in my room and gave me the most horrifying, unexpected news. I did not understand the language written on this paper. All I knew from the look in their faces was that it wasn’t a good diagnosis,” he captioned the post.
In another Instagram post from September, he wrote the symptoms started with “Loss of appetite. Pain in my back also started to creep in… finally decided to do something about it,” Mora wrote at the time. “It was a bit late. But just in time.”
He originally thought the symptoms were due to intensive work on the farm he and Kelis purchased outside of Los Angeles in the city of Temecula.
On Mora’s final Instagram post of a photo of a cow uploaded in January, social media users wrote condolence messages, including “Rest well man” and “Farewell Mike, rest in perfect peace. ”
Kelis and Mora have two children together including a daughter who was born around the time he was given his diagnosis. Kelis also has another son with her ex-husband, rapper Nas.
