John Legend Slams ‘Serial Child Rapist’ R. Kelly

Legend is the only music star to appear in the docuseries that premiered Thursday, Jan. 3.

Hampton told the Detroit Free Press Thursday that it was difficult to book well-known celebrities, explaining: “When it comes to celebrities, It was incredibly difficult to get people who had collaborated (artistically) with Kelly to come forward. We asked Lady Gaga. We asked Erykah Badu. We asked Celine Dion. We asked Jay-Z. We asked Dave Chappelle.”

She continued: “(They’re) people who have been critical of him. That makes John Legend even more of a hero for me.”

The first part of Surviving R. Kelly addressed claims that the R&B singer had sex with underage girls. One of R. Kelly’s backup singers, Jovante Cunningham, recalled: “The first time I witnessed a sexual act in the studio was during the recording of (Kelly’s song) ‘Slow Dance (Remix).’ He had one of my teenage friends in the booth with him, bent over. We were all right there. I will not say with whom, but I knew she was underage.”

Cunningham also alleged that the Ignition performer had sex with the late Aaliyah Haughton on a crowded tour bus when she was 15 and he was 27.

“It just so happened we were all laying in our bunks and the curtains are open, everybody’s communicating, laughing,” she said. “When the [room] door flew open on the bus. Robert was having sex with Aaliyah.”

R. Kelly’s lawyer, Brian Nix,  is considering filing a federal lawsuit against Lifetime on his client’s behalf, TMZ reported Thursday.

Additionally, the entertainer claims he has two audio recordings that show Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.”

Surviving R. Kelly continues on Lifetime at 9 p.m. ET/PT  Friday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 5.
