Jermaine Dupri is questioning  whether Dawn Robinson is poverty-stricken after the En Vogue alum revealed she lives in her car. The reason — Robsinson mentioned she has an assistant, which Dupri said no “broke” person can afford.

During an Instagram live interview on March 13, Dupri shared his thoughts on Robison’s revelation last week on YouTube that she doesn’t have a place to live.

“Having an assistant is not something that you should even think about if you don’t have no money,” Dupri said.

He continued, “I’m bringing this up because Dawn, when she was telling the story in her car… about her living in her car for the last three years, she said, ‘I was telling my assistant,’ and when she said that, I said, ‘Oh s–t, wait a minute, wait a minute… it changed my whole vibe of what I was watching. Because, ain’t no goddamn way she got an assistant and she ain’t got no money. Ain’t no way.”

The So So Def Recordings founder added, “Ain’t nobody getting ready to sit up under you and just kick it for nothing. It might be some people that will stick there for a little bit, but three years… It don’t make sense.”

“I’m just trying to make sure everybody pays attention to the whole scope of this story, because that’s what I heard and that made me think, wait a minute,” he said. “She got an assistant? I don’t know if she broke. She might not have all the money that she want in the world, but she definitely is not broke saying she got an assistant.”

Robinson, 58, had a successful career as a founding member of R&B supergroups En Vogue and Lucy Pearl.

In a video she posted to YouTube, she said things got difficult in 2020, and she moved in with her parents in Las Vegas.

The Grammy-nominated singer revealed her manager at the time invited her to Los Angeles and put her up in a hotel for several months.

She said her manager promised to help her get an apartment but he didn’t follow through, so she started researching van life and moved into her car.

In his Instagram live, Dupri said it was Robison’s choice to live off the grid.

“I saw somebody send a message that said, ‘Jermaine, Monica, all of y’all, put some money together to help Dawn out?’ From my understanding… she was basically saying that she say other people living in their vans, living in RVs, and she welcomed the idea of doing this,” he said.
