BET+ Movie ‘Soul of a Sister’ Tells Story of Overcoming Abuse in Music Industry

A young singer with a beautiful voice and a bright future falls victim to abuse in the music industry, in the upcoming BET+ movie Soul of a Sister.

V. Bozeman (Empire) leads the cast as Nyna Walker, a talented singer who is violated by a shady music industry insider named Von (played by Giovanni Watson).

In the trailer for the film, Von tells Nyna “studio time ain’t cheap” before he assaults her.

Nyna’s life unravels and she falls into addiction and depression.

But with a daughter to care for, she fights to get her life back on track. “I’m ready for my voice to be heard,” she says.

Years later, Nyna is shown singing in the subway and eventually gets discovered by music producer Jesse Blackstone, played by singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger.

“I’m not gonna let you down,” Jesse tells her.

The cast of the film also includes Jason Devón Jenkins, Jhoné Lucas, Rita “Riri” Ferdinand, Latish “Tish” Hyman, Dreux “Lil Fizz” Frederic, and Paris Nicole

The movie is written and directed by Dale Resteghini, and features original songs from Veronika Bozeman.

Producers on the film include Damien Douglas, Dale Resteghini, Matt Macur, Thomas Walton, Lenny Vitulli, Jared Safier, Biajani Sheena Marrero, Kurt Finney, Sean Ethan Miller, and J’Tasha St.Cyr

Soul of a Sister begins streaming March 27 on BET+.
