Jennifer Lopez has a hit on her hands.
Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s new romantic comedy Office Romance is now the No. 1 title on the Netflix English-language movie chart.
The film began streaming on Friday, June 5, and topped the chart for the week of June 1-7, after racking up 20.9 million views in its opening weekend.
The actress leads the cast as “Jackie,” president and CEO of an aviation company called Air Cruz. The CEO has a strict anti-fraternization policy in place for all employees, but breaks her own rule when she falls for a newly-hired lawyer at the company.
“I am very excited about this movie. I haven’t done a romantic comedy in a, I don’t know, like five or six years,” Lopez said on the red carpet at the premiere in May. “I love the script, and it was amazing working with Brett. We had a great time.”
Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Jodie Whittaker, Mary Wiseman, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, and Edward James Olmos also star.
Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) directed the film from a script Goldstein co-wrote with Joe Kelly. Lopez, Goldstein, and Kelly produced the comedy, alongside Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina.
On Netflix’s English-language TV chart, the top spot was claimed by Michael Jackson: The Verdict. The three-part documentary series debuted on the platform June 5, and landed at No. 1, with 17.8 million views in its first weekend.
The series reexamines the King of Pop’s 2005 criminal trial, with personal accounts from people who were inside the courtroom, including jurors, journalists, attorneys, witnesses, and accusers. On June 13, 2005, Jackson was found not guilty on all counts.
The project was produced by Candle True Stories. Executive producers included Fiona Stourton, David Herman, James Goldston. Nick Green directed the series.
The release of the docuseries came right after the feature film, Michael, topped the box office. To date, the authorized biopic has earned more than $888 million worldwide.
