The first images from Is God Is were released Friday, giving a glimpse of the star-studded revenge thriller from director and playwright Aleshea Harris.
The drama centers on a mother, played by Vivica A. Fox, who is determined to get revenge on her abusive ex and enlists her twin daughters for help.
The mother, referred to as “God,” was left disfigured after her ex set her on fire in front of her children, before abandoning the family.

Breakout stars Kara Young and Mallori Johnson play twins “Racine” and “Anaia.” Sterling K. Brown portrays the pair’s violent and abusive dad.
The all-star cast also includes Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, and Josiah Cross. The film marks a reunion between Brown and Alexander who co-starred in Oscar-winning family drama, American Fiction (2023).

The thriller is based on an award-winning play of the same name from Aleshea Harris, who adapted the script for the film and makes her directorial debut on the project. The trailer was released in February.
Harris, who is Black, received a BA in theatre from the University of Southern Mississippi, and earned an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts.
She co-produced Is God Is with Tessa Thompson, Kishori Rajan, Riva Marker, and Janicza Bravo.

The team behind the film recently launched an HBCU tour and has been holding pre-release screenings for students at Howard University, Texas Southern University, North Carolina A&T University, Dillard University, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU).
The film from Orion Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios is scheduled to arrive in theaters nationwide on May 15, 2026.
