Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes transforms into Mike Tyson in the teaser trailer for Mike.

Hulu unveiled the first look at the unauthorized eight-part series on Wednesday. The video begins with Rhodes looking at himself in a mirror and saying “they call me a savage.” The trailer goes on to chart Tyson’s journey from childhood, to riches, to jail.

The cast includes BMF actor Russell Hornsby as promoter Don King, along with guest stars Harvey Keitel, Laura Harrier, and Li Eubanks.

Here’s the official description: “The eight-episode limited series explores the tumultuous ups and downs of Tyson’s boxing career and personal life – from being a beloved global athlete to a pariah and back again. Focusing the lens on Mike Tyson, the series examines class in America, race in America, fame and the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American Dream, and ultimately our own role in shaping Mike’s story.”

Tyson has previously expressed anger about not being consulted for the series. In a since-deleted Instagram post in February 2021, he accused Hulu of “cultural misappropriation.”

“Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story,” he captioned his post.

Despite Tyson’s objections, Hulu moved forward with the series — which was previously titled, Iron Mike.

Mike begins streaming on Aug. 25 on Hulu. Watch the trailer below.
