The security guard, who was viciously beaten to death by a crowd outside a Hollywood nightclub on July 30, has been identified as a father of two, who also cared for his ailing grandmother.

A relative told the Los Angeles Times the man’s name was Daniel Sandifer.

In an interview with the outlet on Monday, Evette Sandifer said her cousin had been working as a security guard for a few years. She said he was a father to two preteen daughters and was the primary caretaker of his grandmother, who is in hospice care.

In a heartbreaking twist, Evette said she wasn’t sure who would identify Daniel’s body or make funeral arrangements because most of their family lives outside California and the grandmother is too ill.

Urban Hollywood 411 contacted the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner for more information on Sandifer Monday afternoon, but did not immediately get a response.

Evette urged police to arrest her cousin’s attackers as soon as possible.

“I’m sure the club provided some footage. That’s on them, but everybody has cellphones nowadays,” she told The Times. “We need to get some suspects and hold them accountable.”

Los Angeles police said officers responded to an assault call at the Dragonfly Hollywood nightclub on Sunday morning around 2:00 a.m.

Officers found the victim lying in the street. He was “not conscious and not breathing,” the LAPD said in a press release.

Police described the assault as “brutal,” and said a group of seven to 11 men in their 20s confronted the security guard for unknown reasons outside the club.

“When the victim lost his footing and fell to the street, the suspects advanced and began kicking and stomping the victim,” police stated in the press release.

The suspects took off running.

Paramedics transported Sandifer to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The club, located in the 6500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, was hosting its weekly “Signature Saturdays” event when the assault happened, according to a flyer on its Instagram page. Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley was the featured performer at the gathering.

In an Instagram story, the club said it would be closed indefinitely.

“As we begin to process and mourn the loss of our colleague, Dragonfly will be closed. Our hearts are with his family at this time,” read a statement from the club.

Co-workers and concerned residents placed candles outside the building on Sunday.

A witness to the attack, who asked not to be identified, told KTLA-TV: “Words were exchanged and they ended up jumping him.”

The LAPD urged anyone with information to call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.

  1. The perps gathered like a pack of wolves, and attacked this man causing his death.
The criminals need to be arrested immediately and imprisoned for life.
I blame the liberal politicians for allowing this type of violence to continue which has turned into an unlawful state.

  2. This is horrific.. My condolences to his loved ones..Every single one of the men should be charged & incarcerated for life!!! This young man was on his job!! I hope the “Dragonfly” is going to show their respect & honor this young man & offer to help financially ??
