A security guard was beaten to death by “several” people outside a Hollywood nightclub early Sunday morning, Los Angeles police said.

The violence unfolded around 2 a.m. at the popular Dragonfly Hollywood when some type of fight broke out, and a group of people confronted the security guard.

The victim, identified only as a man in his 30s, was “physically assaulted” before he died, a spokesperson in the LAPD Media Relations division told Urban Hollywood 411.

During a media briefing outside the club, police told reporters the attack was brutal.

“A large group, for unknown reasons, confronted that security guard causing him to fall to the street, at which time the group advanced, kicked and stomped him to death,” LAPD Det. Samuel Marullo said.

Video aired on local news stations showed the victim lying on the street as paramedics performed CPR and clubgoers looked on. The man was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

KTLA said the initial 911 call was for a fight involving 10 people attacking one person. ABC7 reported up to nine suspects were involved.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, according to the LAPD.

Investigators plan to review security footage from the neighborhood. Police also urged anyone who saw or recorded the violece to contact them.

The club, located in the 6500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, was hosting its weekly “Signature Saturdays” event when the assault happened, according to a flyer on its Instagram page.

Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley was the featured performer at the gathering.

  1. It was 10 against 1 and a rapper was the feature performance–do we have any indication what race the perpetrators were?

    1. Do you have some insider info that could affect the outcome of the investigation? Are you between two suspects and the ONLY thing stopping you from solving the case is knowing which of the two suspects it was, depending on their race? Have you reached out to the authorities with your suspicions or are you an independent investigator holding back info?

  2. They’ll never convict anyone, it’s LA, just who do you sought out from the tribe, no way you charge 9. Everyone walks, club gets fined and then back to “Apprearing Tonite” at the Dragonfly

  3. Its always 10 on 1. I’d bet money the security guard was white too… at a rap show no less…

  4. I hear the crowd was “mostly peaceful” you know except for the animalistic herd.
