Harriet Tubman follows the North Star to freedom in the first trailer for Harriet.

The preview for the film opens with Harriet running away from vicious slave owners and traveling 100 miles on her own.

“God don’t mean people to own people,” she says.

Once she reaches safety, she’s warned not to go back to the South. But Harriet is determined to guide other slaves to freedom and becomes an abolitionist via the Underground Railroad.

“If I’m free, my family should be too. I made up my mind, I’m going back,” she says.

The film is inspired by the story of the iconic freedom fighter who risked her life countless times to fight oppression.
